Haverhill has a 2nd multiple alarm fire in September.
The city of Haverhill’s fire department has been put through the ringer with it’s 2nd, 2nd alarm fire in the month of September.
Midafternoon on the 26th the Haverhill fire department received a telephone call reporting a fire at the corner of South Elm St. and South Main St.
It did not take responding companies long to request the 2nd alarm with heavy smoke in the air as they approached the scene.
Shortly after arrival of the mutual aid companies from Salem NH, two cats were rescued from the second floor of the structure.
Conditions quickly went downhill and command order the evacuation of firefighters from the structure.
With firefighters switching to defensive ops., the fire took off in the upper floors and vented heavily through the windows and eves.
Once crews got deck gun and monitors set up they got a fast handle on the fire.
