Starting the New Year off with a bang!

Following a 911 call earlier today the quiet streets of Salisbury's sea coast became a chaotic scene of fire trucks, ambulances and police cars racing their way towards a loom of smoke raising into the air along 2nd street. As crews raced towards the scene they where up dated by dispatch that there was a reported explosion in the garage.

The 1st arriving unit found a detached garage with heavy fire throughout extending to a two and half story wood residential. The senior officer quickly called for the working fire.

As companies arrived they began the lay in from hydrant but they would run out of hose before reaching the scene. Yes there where hydrant on the point near the scene; however; they would not have enough pressure to supply the scene. The nearest high flow hydrant would be some 495' away at the intersection of March Road and 1st Street.

After several mutual aid rigs laying in a pump would have to sit on the plug tied in with a hydrant assist valve to boost the water pressure to feed the rigs on scene flowing the water.

After battling the low water pressure at the onset command raised the alarm level right off the bat, "Give me the 2nd!"

Lines where stretched and crews began the battle; however; with two structure taking off with heavy fire they had their hands full. With conditions deteriorating command called the 3rd.

As companies would knocked down the fire in the garage using foam. With the bulk of the garage knocked back the focus turned to the house which the fire had extended to.

The ladders went up and crews opened walls and vented the windows.

Crews had an extensive overhaul to do before this fire could be deemed out and crew could return to quarters. Companies would poor hundreds of gallons of water from the hose lines onto what was left of the garage and would pull walls and ceiling in the main house.

It was some very strong work by many to bring this battle to an end.
