Worcester sending off a Hero.
Unfortunately every now and then; and hopefully it is more then, then now; firefighters have to come together to salute and say goodbye to one of their own.
And for those who do not know or get it, it does not have to been in the department he or she works for, firefighters work for the Brotherhood. And when the Brotherhood losses one of its own it is felt across the land and when it is time to give that salute and say those goodbyes; just as if the tones dropped for a structure fire; the Brotherhood drops everything and comes to the call.
Well tragically the City of Worcester lost another one of their own this past week. In the wee hours; 1 a.m.; on Wednesday November 16th. Crews from the Worcester fire department got the call and rolled out as if they would to any call, throwing on their turn out gear, masked up to 7 Stockholm a 3 story wood residential. As they arrived they had "heavy fire showing" from the 2nd floor and went to work. As crews began to stretch lines and throw ladders they received reports that there possible people including a baby trapped on the upper floors. With out hesitation crews of Ladder 5 went in; but sadly; not everyone would make out alive. The fire would grow rapidly engulfing the second floor where Lt. Jason Menard and his crew of Ladder 5 were operating. In a heroic effort Lt, Menard made sure his crew would make it out guiding one member to a back porch then going back in for his other guy eventually locating and pushing him out window. But sadly Lt. Menard would not make it out of the building himself. Conditions deteriorated quickly with heavy fire taking over floors and stairs collapsing.
Just as he did other firefighters went in to rescue him, eventually locating him and removing him from the structure; but; his injuries where to much for his body to handle and he circum to his injuries.
