Lawrence, MA Firefighter fighting back flames in the cold weather.

Today Lawrence Fire Department received calls for a possible structure fire at 115 Butler St.

The first arriving companies quickly reported smoke showing from the upper floor of a two and half wood frame residential structure. After entering the building and making their way to the top floor; which was fully furnished; they reported back to command heavy fire. Command called for the working fire.

At this point Lawrence fire had to also deal with a box alarm on Broadway, so dispatch and command where directing unit to the calls.

Fighting fire was not the only thing crews where battling, they where also confronted by some of the lowest tempatures in the record of the State.

The fight to save the building was also hampered by water problems. Fire fighters had a hard time getting hydrants open and flowing in the cold temps.

With mutual aid coming into the city for coverage, command requested an additional pump to the scene. And once able to clear from the Broadway call another ladder.

Crews on scene shortly after arriving found themselves hearing the horns of the trucks and evac. tones being sounded. Crews backed out and established an aerial master stream and operated hand lines on the exterior.

After several hours outside in the bitter cold, command reported the fire under control.
