Wakefield's 3 alarm on Highland St.
The other day while crews in Wakefield where clearing another call noticed heavy black smoke up. And where there’s smoke, there’s fire! The companies headed in the direction to discover a fire on Highland St., just blocks from the central fire station. The first in crew were confronted with heavy fire on the 1st and 2nd floors. With conditions getting worse fast, the commander requested a second alarm, bring in several other towns. As those companies arrived commands orders where, “Stage your rig, masks and tools to the front of the building and you’re going to work!” This was the order for company after company. With more manpower command set a crew in with the intent of advancing a hand line up to the finished attic space, but again condition would not allow it to happen. “All crews out!” command ordered. With the crews outside, several big line with monitors where set and let the surround and drown begin! By this point North Reading ladder; which arrived on the 2nd alarm; had made it down the tight apparatus and hose filled narrow street to through the stick. Before it was all said and done, three alarms where struck for equipment and manpower at the seen with additional resources provide the town with coverage. Action ambulance was on scene and attended to two firefighters.
