Boxford Fire Department actually caught a job!

Mid-day yesterday the Boxford 911 Center began receiving calls from a resident on High Ridge Road reporting the shingles on their roof where on fire.

The tones dropped and the Members of BFD began racing to their stations to grab their gear and the rigs.

The 1st arriving unit reported smoke and fire showing from the roof. Shortly thereafter the “Working Fire” was declared. And the on scene senior officer advised dispatch to get coverage for the town; but; as those units signed on and started towards Boxford their assignments would change. “Topsfield engine head to the scene, please!” comes across the radio. “Groveland engine also head to the scene!” Change of assignment after change of assignment.

Even with this happening the need for water in a town with few hydrant became too much. “Command to fire alarm, request a tanker task force!” to paraphrase. Bring in on special request Middleton’s newer tanker to the scene. Which was parked front and center to the scene allowing Boxford’s Engine 1,2, and 3 to shuttle water from the supply to the scene.

On scene mutual aid was provided by Topsfield, Georgetown, Middleton, and Groveland. North Andover Also responded to the scene and stood by as the dedicated Rapid Intervention Team or RIT.

Danvers, Andover and Haverhill provided station coverage while the scene was active.

Several of the BFD Explorers responded to the scene helping out with air bottles and hose management. However that was not all! As the scene began to slow and apparatus cleared back to their station the Explorers Post help provide coverage to the town. Actually catching several calls. Eng1ine signed on and was 1st due with the Explorers to a possible water rescue situation.

Great job by all !
