Boxford's Battle on Halloween!
Last nigth the quiet streets of Boxford came alive and it was not with ghosts and goblins or trick or treaters dressed up as firemen it was with actual firemen!
Around 8:30 p.m. the 911 center received a call reporting a possible fire at 41 Kelsey Road. The dispatcher dropped the tones and dispatched the units. Within minutes of the dispatch he was back on the radio advising the police where on scene reporting heavy fire from the 2nd floor.
The 1st due crew attempted the quick knock down by stretching lines to the 2nd floor; but had to back out due to unsafe conditions, specifically Collier Mansion Syndrome or hoarding.
This was not the only issue they Fire Department faced. With trees and power lines down from the storm the night before accessing the scene became difficult. The quickest route to the nearest water supply; Stevens pond; was blocked. This prevented them from getting the much needed water to control the fire. Crews from across the Northeast began to file in and as they did so began to supply the water. Crews laid down a LDH hose some 0.5 miles along Kelsey and Hemlock Roads to be able to connect with the trucks shuttling the water from the pond.
Crews battled this massive fire from the exterior with the surround and drown method for hours.
DFS Rehab responded and provided their services.
