A Turtle shutdown Route 1
Yesterday around dinner time Lynnfield fire got dispatched out to Route 1 near the Salem Street overpass / Tunnel for a Motor Vehicle Accident.
This accident would give a whole new meaning to the term "Turtle Crossing Road" as seen on some street post near wet land. The term "Turtle" had been dubbed a nickname for an overturned vehicle. And in this case it was a full turtle, completely upside down on its roof.
After fighting it's way out of the Station because the station lost power due to the accident and it's generator failed to start, Engine 1 arrived to find 2 occupants which where in the process of self extricating from the vehicle.
With electrical wires down across the roadway apparatus could not make it all the way down the road to the scene. C1 the Chief who responded and was on scene gave the next arriving units direction to respond out to Route 1 via Maple Street and travel opposing traffic (North Bound in the Southbound Lane) to get into the scene.
EMS evaluated both the occupants of the vehicle for injuries. One person was treated on scene and refused further medical care. The other was taken by Ambulance to Lahey Hospital.
Because there was high voltage power lines down across Route 1 it had to be shut down in both directions by Mass. State Police. This create a massive traffic jam in the area as police officers attempted to divert traffic off Route 1.
